Prophets of Rage Share New Single, Complete With Video
The menacing lyrics and vocals of B-Real put a sharp focus on the dire consequences of America’s gun violence epidemic.
Revolutionary musicians, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk, Chuck D, B-Real and DJ Lord, otherwise known as Prophets of Rage, have shared the brand new track ‘Pop Goes The Weapon’, accompanied by a haunting, and moving, video.
The video features a comprehensive list of the mass shootings which have taken place this year so far, including the date, location and number of deceased/injured. This information spools over clips of America’s gun obbsessed culture and the newspaper headlines which have reported the horrific shootings which have littered the USA this year.
The video finishes with the names of those recently killed in; Gilroy, CA, El Paso, TX, and Dayton, OH. These names scroll silently by as the tracks comes to an end. All three of these shootings happened within 10 days of each other.
B-Real says that the new track “reflects the ongoing gun violence happening in America.” With Tom Morello adding that “Guns are both the subject of religious worship AND huge profits in the United States.” He finishes to say that ‘Pop Goes The Weapon’ “channels our ‘thoughts and prayers’ through Marshall stacks and microphones.”
This new track has been released on the back of their triumphant European tour, which saw them perform to more than one million people in the first few shows. It also comes after the announcement the band are working on a follow-up album to their 2017 selt-titled debut.
