Manchester’s The Slow Readers Club embark on their biggest UK headline tour to date this Winter
If ever there was a band to currently embody the sheer tenacity of Manchester, it would be The Slow Readers Club. Having risen through their city’s ranks, the four-piece have rapidly gone from a best kept secret to one of its proudest exports.
Following a 2016 that saw the band support James on a UK arena tour and sell out their own headline show at Manchester’s 1500 capacity Ritz venue months in advance, this year has seen The Slow Readers Club build on a reputation spread by social media and word of mouth alone.
Having recently completed a Spring tour to sold out crowds up and down the country, the band are now looking ahead to a festival packed summer, including a Mainstage slot at Isle Of Wight Festival alongside Arcade Fire and Catfish and The Bottlemen, while once again sharing a stage with James at this year’s Sounds of the City.
The band announced their ‘Through The Shadows Autumn/Winter Tour’ at last weekend’s Dot to Dot Festival, a tour that will start in Dublin, and finish in Glasgow, and will include their biggest headline show to date: the stunning surrounds of Manchester’s 2000-capacity Albert Hall.
An impressive CV considering the band are totally DIY and aren’t signed to a label.
Comments from the band
“The last 2 years have been incredible. We want to say a big thanks to our fans for spreading the word. We sold out the Ritz (1500 tickets) 2 months in advance and sold out 5 venues of our recent tour, it’s pretty mind blowing for us. Especially considering we have no label or financial backing. It just shows how important word of mouth is.
For our winter tour we are taking it up a notch again and will be playing some legendary venues like King Tuts in Glasgow and The Albert Hall in Manchester. It will also be the first chance for people to hear some brand new material.”
