Dreamcar delivers new sounds to the Vic Theatre!
The intimate crowd took to cheers as Dreamcar took the stage.
You never would have thought that this super-group formed only months ago. Jumping right into their album opener ‘After I Confessed’ the band was on point showing how professional and talented they are. Fronted by AFI’s famed vocalist Davey Havok, his voice melts the highly emotional 80’s esque style without flaw.
He is able to demonstrate his wide array of singing capabilities throughout the night by performing covers of David Bowie’s ‘Moonage Daydream’ and INXS’s ‘Don’t Change’. The remainder of Dreamcar is made up of the members from No Doubt minus Gwen.
The beat is perfectly carried by Tony Kanal’s upbeat-melodic-punk bass playing. He is a master of his craft and it shows song after song. Not to be outdone, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young equally carry the weight of the night’s performance on their shoulders. Dumont delivers that 80’s chorus-airy-punch that is heard in their music.
Young drives the tempos providing energetic expressions and deep swells. The core band was also accompanied by a sax/keys player and 2 backing vocalists. The combination of these instruments and singers helped create a completely rounded out sound.
Dreamcar managed to play every song off their debut self-titled album. They rearranged songs to make transitions easier as well to save the best for last. Being such a new band I never expected the fans to sing along as well as they did. Every song had the entire crowd dancing around and singing loudly with Davey. Clearly this band has a future ahead of itself.
Superet opened the night for Dreamcar. They have a unique sound with fuzzed out bass and varying vocals. Their energy spread throughout the crowd and warmed the fans up for what was to come. They do not have a lot of info available about them, but have a handful of shows coming up on the West coast. Check out their single ‘Pay It Later’ on all your typical media platforms.
As always – it was a pleasure getting to hear such fresh new music live. Dreamcar set from Chicago can be found here. They have a couple tour dates scheduled with more to come. You can view those here.
