LIVE: James Manchester & The Charlatans, Manchester Arena + 2019 Tour Announcement

in Live

Two of North Wests finest bring their 21,000 fans to Manchester Arena for a night of new music, nostalgia and Extraordinary Times

With a joint history of 65 years between both bands, a collective of 22 studio albums and a back catalog that is overflowing with anthems – was the night was set to be one of the most rememberable Manchester Arena had seen?

As The Charlatans take to the stage with their new single ‘Total Eclipsing’ the first Tim of 2 fills the arena with his signature tones. As expected, a few new songs from the bands 2017 album Different Days, are performed however lets be honest, its the hits people generally want and the hits is what they got.

The entire crowd join in for a standing singalong for ‘The Only One I Know’ and ‘North Country Boy’ and a fitting tribute to the late Pete Shelley, an incredible cover of ‘Ever Fallen In Love’ was played. Very heartwarming.

This is the 3rd James show this year and rightly so, the band played many songs from their latest album ‘Living in Extraordinary Times’. Opening with one of their latest tacks, ‘Hank’ the setlist had the crowd pleasing hits such as ‘Sit Down’, ‘Laid’, ‘Moving On’ and ‘Come home’.

Signature antics such as appearing from the back of the stadium, gripping the crowd, hand in hand, Tim, suggested that “We’re making it up as we go along” but we all know the band are a well drilled machine – they could probably do this with their eyes closed but who needs a plan anyway?

With a 4 song encore consisting of ‘How Was It for You’ starting with Tim in the centre of the arena, ‘Don’t Wait That Long’, Many Faces’ and closing with everyones favourite ‘Sometimes’, the night inevitably came to an end and indeed, as I’m sure it was for many, extraordinary times..

As the bands UK arena tour with The Charlatans comes to an end, James have announced a further tour for March next year visiting some of the UK’s most iconic and revered venues when, in typically unconventional style, the band will be supporting themselves by playing an acoustic set before performing their full electrified show.
