Jerry Williams Live At Jimmy’s.

Jerry Williams kicked off her tour in Manchester last night

I first heard of Jerry Williams whilst reviewing Neighbourhood Weekender 2018, and since then I have been determined to catch her at a concert, so was pleased when I heard she was playing Jimmy’s.

The night was opened by two talented acts, Maddy Storm and Wild Front, and they started the night off well, and the venue was packed before the main support had even taken to the stage. After the support, and bang on half 9, the lights were cut as Williams and her band took to stage and burst into their opening numbers.

Her set included new material, old favourites and the songs that every fan knows every word to. Ranging from the brilliant ‘What Do You Want for Breakfast’, to the new, extremely moving, ‘David At The Bar’, which is her most recent single, and the story behind that song was enough to nearly bring Williams to tears on stage, but she held back those tears and delivered a beautiful, powerful version of the newly released song.

Williams and her incredible support were on for an hour, and as soon as they finished their set, the crowd beckoned for more, and Williams delivered 2 more songs.

Her set was incredible, and for my first gig of the year, I couldn’t have chose a better act. The talent that she possess is truly amazing, and her songwriting is something really special. Her songs are reminiscent of Lily Allen, and her lyrics could challenge Bob Dylan’s. Jerry Williams is the prime example of why up and coming bands should be shown as much support as the arena acts.
