Rob Zombie, Copenhell 2019

in Festivals/Live

Brought the real party – a showoff in showmanship

Helviti stage, Friday:

When Rob Zombie and his team mates, guitarist John5, bassist Piggy D and drummer Ginger Fish takes the stage on Copenhell’s biggest one, it’s a matter of seconds before the ghoul-dressed bunch takes over the entire festival. From the get-go, there is SO much energy beamed out from the catwalk extension (setup for Scorpions later tonight), that it hits me like a hammer. Everything is just “wow!”, and “American Witch” comes on. Hands with horns gets thrown up immediately, and the crowdsurfing begins almost instantaneously.

The warm weather and the early evening sun makes this a very cozy place to be, and Rob The Entertainer is never shy to put on a show for anyone. This extends to the rest of the band too, as guitarist John5 reaches out to a girl in the massive audience and throws his guitar pick out to her with a big smile on his face. The whole show feels so intimate and laid-back, even though we’re standing there with about 15000 other people. This is further cemented, as Rob climbs down into the photo pit, and sits in a crowdsurf-chair of people, who carries him around, while handing out high-fives and singing. The surplus from this band just didn’t end.

After “More Human Than Human”, Rob goes on to talk about their walk around in Copenhagen earlier today, shopping for shoes and clothes, all contributing to the super friendly atmosphere. After “House Of 1000 Corpses”, we got a guitar solo from John5, ending it with the entire solo part from Led Zeppelin’s “Heartbreaker”.

Some fourteen songs played, seems like a short set, but it felt long, and it was good. In my book one of the top shows on the festival.
