Today, Mallory Knox announce their new single ‘California,’ the latest release from their Top 20 third album ‘Wired.’
The single coincides with a brand new EP ‘Unwired,’ featuring stripped back versions of a number of tracks from the album, including the singles ‘Giving It Up’ and ‘Better Off Without You.’
The third single to be lifted from the album, ‘California’ is inspired by a conversation bassist Sam Douglas had with a friend who had fallen into a dark place in his life. Aligning with the album’s themes of introspection and mental health, the track’s poignant lyrics encourage its listener to believe that life can sometimes throw you a lifeline if you adopt a new way of thinking, “So maybe take a leap and step out of your mind, you’ll gain a new perspective / You’re realising lonely hearts can find a little love.” The single’s nostalgic video incorporates vintage film shot in California with footage from the band’s sold out headline show at London’s Koko earlier this year.
Speaking about the track, frontman Mikey Chapman says: “We wanted ‘California’ to be a feel good summer tune. It reflects our time in the States touring and the experiences we had there. It wasn’t all easy going, but the song is a reminder to embrace and remember the good when facing harder times.”
To coincide with the single release, the band also release a brand new EP ‘Unwired’ today. Comprised of stunning acoustic renditions of fan favourites from the album, including the singles ‘Giving It Up’ and ‘Better Off Without You,’ ‘Unwired’ highlights the band’s versatility as musicians, effortlessly transitioning from energetic, stadium-sized rock anthems to melodic acoustic jams.
‘Unwired’ is out now and includes the following tracks:
Giving It Up (Unwired)
Better Off Without You (Unwired)
Mallory Knox released their third album ‘Wired’ earlier this year, charting within the Top 20 in the Official UK Albums Chart. The singles ‘Giving It Up’ and ‘Better Off Without You’ have garnered huge support from BBC Radio 1, with both boasting lengthy stays on their playlist. The band recently sold out London’s Koko, playing two consecutive headline shows as a part of their extensive UK tour. With live dates across Europe, a US tour alongside Good Charlotte and a slot on Reading & Leeds’ Main Stage all in the pipeline this summer, it’s clear that there is no stopping Mallory Knox in 2017.
