Achieving merely joint third place in works Christmas quiz because I could not remember the eighth reindeer, was a little annoying.
This office based disaster could have been avoided if Gerard Way’s latest single had been released just a few days earlier – it being called Dasher – that forgotten sleigh puller.
Very much a Christmas track, it isn’t just about the reindeer. As Way explained, “Dasher is about a girl who falls in love with a reindeer. The reindeer thinks she’s pretty great too. They have adventures, they talk about life. The song is also about the magic sometimes hidden in the mundane.”
While full of emotional and life affirming tropes the track avoids being over saccharine and boasts a lovely new wave melody and sing a long chorus. It even includes a narrative element provided by Lydia Night from The Regrettes.
All together Dasher is a lovely Christmas gift from Way, who has been incredibly busy this year. Dasher is his third new release in the less than three months. Alongside, his recording work, Way has been working with Netflix. The small screen adaptation of Way’s comic book, The Umbrella Academy, will debut in 2019.
Dasher is out now via Reprise Records. Oh, and those eight reindeer should you need to know for any reason, no need to share, are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen.
