Sonic Youth legend goes live….
Not to pigeon hole any band, or anybody for that matter, Lee Ranaldo was in one of the bands that started a revolution.
Sonic Youth was that band, and if it wasn’t for them, Dinosaur Jr and The Pixies, grunge would never have happened. And since the demise of Sonic Youth, Lee Ranaldo has gone solo, and now it’s your opportunity to hear what he is like live.
Electric Trim : Live At Rough Trade East is the name of this particular future album release, and sees Ranaldo in the intimate confines of the acoustic set. Recorded in October 2017, this was the start of the Electric Trim tour and it saw Ranaldo extensively showcase his music in several countries. And the track I have chosen for you to enjoy is, Last Looks. Six minutes long, but you instantly travel into familiar territory with Ranaldo. A distinctive guitar sound, and vocals that have a hint of Michael Stipe about them. Not that that is a bad thing, given the success Stipe had.
Last Looks is a fantastic piece of music, and one that fits in nicely with anyone with a good ear for music. Electric Trim : Live At Rough Trade East will indeed get the full Flick Of The Finger treatment, once the album is released. But have a good listen to Last Looks, you’ll want to listen to it again and again. Pure acoustic joy.
Last Looks is just one of the tracks from the forthcoming album, Electric Trim : Live At Rough Trade East, and the album is released on Friday December 14th on the Mute label.
Lee Ranaldo is also appearing at the following European venues on the following November dates:
Friday 9th – House Of Foundation – Moss, Norway
Saturday 10th – DRIV – Tromso, Norway
Sunday 11th – Sorte Firkant Musikfestival – Copenhagen, Denmark
