Down In The (Maximo) Park…..
The year 2000 was the start of a new millennium. The start of Maximo Park, straight out of Newcastle Upon Tyne, also began in that year.
18 years on, and they are still going strong. And they’ve got a new single too. It’s called I Want You To Stay.
The band – Paul Smith, Duncan Lloyd, Lukas Wooller, Tom English and Paul Rafferty – have had six album releases, resulting in over 3 million sales. And there is going to be album number 7 with, As Long As We Keep Moving. A live album, containing the hits from all their studio albums. The song we feature here is one from the first album, A Certain Trigger, and it’s I Want You To Stay.
Recorded at Maida Vale studios, this song still sounds as good as ever. The thing about Maximo Park is that they have been an underrated band, for whatever the reason may have been. But to maintain a string of songs that can slot straight in nicely with anything that gets released nowadays is what this band is so good at. The music is crisp, the vocals are sharp and doing it all again for a live album gives it that little bit of an extra edge.
It is certainly going to be an essential addition to the Maximo Park back catalogue, and sometimes there is nothing better than a good old live album. If this is what to expect from As Long As We Keep Moving, it’ll be well worth waiting for those all important live dates so you can see them for yourselves. Maximo Park, maximum music.
I Want You To Stay is taken from the forthcoming album, As Long As We Keep Moving, which is released on all formats including DVD. The release date is Friday 22nd February, 2019.
