Painkiller The New EP from Clean Cut Kid was out now and features the single Emily.

The band head out on an an intimate UK tour in November.

‘Emily’ is about a friend of theirs who was dealing with depression and it is a topic close to the band’s heart.

Written, recorded and engineered entirely by the band, the band then took a 10 month break from the road to record new music. The first thing they did was head back to their native Liverpool, where they rented a pod in an old shipping factory in the Baltic Triangle area of the city, and filled it with vintage recording equipment.

Once that was fully set up, the band locked themselves away for months on end, getting everything up to the standard they wanted. Says Mike:“The area we recorded the album in is very Liverpool, it’s full of character, very creative.

“We knew we had to put time in to it to get the recording right. We planned making a record like this during the making of our first album – shut the doors to everyone. With the music, the only way to get in to a head space that our job was to make a record was to work 12-14 hours a day.

Lead single ‘Emily’ sees the band deviate from the indie-pop sound of their debut album Felt released last year, in to a more lo-fi, American East Coast sound, with echoes of Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones and Phoebe Bridgers.

‘Slow Progress’ meanwhile sees the band expand on their newly developed sound showcased in ‘Emily’ with raucous, heavily-distorted guitar riffs and fuzzy bass lines that build to a cacophonous finale.

Final track ‘Stay Awake’ finds the band at their melodic best, with harmonic backing vocals from Evelyn intertwining with 70s esque guitar lines.
