Bad Elephant Music is proud to announce the signing of Bristol-based multi-instrumentalist Saul Blease for the release of his new album, The Great War, in November 2018.
A four-year labour of love, the album reworks songs written over the last four years into a musical chronicle of the First World War.
Singer-songwriter Saul has already released two critically acclaimed solo albums, as well as instrumental music under the Northwoods name.
Saul said: “Bad Elephant’s artist-centric approach has helped me produce an album that while challenging to make, has also been very enjoyable, and has pushed my musical boundaries into new and exciting areas and soundscapes.”
BEM’s Head of PR James Turner: “I’ve been a massive fan of Saul’s ever since I heard hisdebut album Daybreak, and I am excited that we at BEM are working with him on thisexciting new project”.
The Great War will be released on CD and digitally on November 11th, with pre-orders available from mid-October.
Saul Blease is a twenty three year old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Bristol, creating new music that fuses together elements of alternative and rock, with splashes of industrial and electronica.
His debut album, Daybreak, was described by Prog Britannia as a “fantastic debut”.
After a brief stint learning the recorder, Saul concentrated on the keyboard from age six, picking up the guitar along the way. An offer of free singing lessons led to an audition at Bristol Cathedral where he eventually rose to the rank of Head Chorister before retiring due to “old age”, having toured with the choir in France and Germany and recorded a CD of choral music.
This led to the opportunity to sing with the legendary Twelfth Night at The Peel in 2008, repeating the experience in 2010 at the band’s homecoming gig in Reading.
After performing an acoustic set of original material supporting Unto Us and Colourflow at the Frog & Fiddle in Cheltenham in July 2014 Saul was invited to play two ’fringe’ performances at the tenth Summer’s End Progressive Rock Festival in Chepstow. A review of these shows stated, “He has a fine voice and accompanied himself on keyboard through songs that have a very individual character.”
He released his first solo album, Daybreak, in December 2014 to critical acclaim, Lady Obscure magazine describing it as “an album that pleases on many levels”. A 4-track EP entitled Black Holewas released in 2017 and was described by the Classic Rock Society Magazine as “astonishing’
Alongside his solo rock music, he also records electronic music under the name Northwoods as well as devoting his energies to developing a career in music though both band and solo projects.
The Great War is Saul’s debut release on Bad Elephant Music. As Saul explains, “this has given me a really exciting opportunity, allowing me to revisit music I had already written, and write a number of new songs exploring ideas and events that I would not have been able to within the original parameters of the project”
