Irish Songsmiths, Whenyoung Have Released A Powerful New Song

The new track is in support of Women’s Aid UK and Ireland

The new track is entitled, “The Prayer”, and is brand-new material which the band have written and recorded in their Ramsgate flat, where the band are all currently in lockdown together.

It came as a response to the daily news reports filtering in and the feelings poked by the ways Coronavirus is affecting everyone’s life. It’s a song to show empathy and support to everyone around the world that are experiencing so many different emotions at the moment.

The track is a soft, gentle piano piece. Think Lana Del Ray, Nick Cave’s “No More Shall We Part”. Atmospheric guitars ring out, almost distantly, whilst Aoife’s ethereal vocals drift over the top. It all creates a sooting, calming feeling as you listen to it, as well as making you long for whatever it is you may be longing for in these testing times.

The band had this to say about the track,”We wanted to create something meditative to soothe the anxiety and fear we are feeling” the band explain. “Reading through the news every day and hearing stories of grief and sadness filtered into the writing. It’s a song about our immediate reactions to being quarantined, imagining the pain of others and our own being unable to see loved ones. To coincide with the release of ‘The Prayer’ we will be raising money for Women’s Aid Ireland and U.K. with the sale of a limited-edition t-shirt and other events on our social media.”

Alongside the money raised from the limited edition t-shirt sales, the band will be making a donation from money raised by the single to Women’s Aid UK and Ireland.

Since the release of their debut album ‘Reasons to Dream’ in 2019, Whenyoung have been cementing their status as one of alternative music’s brightest talents. Currently in lockdown on the South Coast, in their flat-turned-studio, they are hard at work with their second album, experimenting with new styles and instrumentation to create a new sound, unlike anything the band have previously released.

On May 3rd, Whenyoung had the opportunity to perform this piece live on BBC News Worldwide, as the BBC produced a story about new music under lockdown.
